Should we shame Governor
Susana Martinez for her lack of leadership skills? Yes, we should. Did she ever try to hammer out some
compromises amongst the partisans in the Legislature, which ended with no
capital outlay bills?
This is on her as much as the leadership in the houses. She
reigns over chaos. Watch your highways, bridges and infrastructure fall apart.
No wonder we are now number 2 in poverty rates. When even government fails to
provide jobs, then there is something wrong with the leadership. I suspect the guys who run the cleaning
crews in the Capitol are showing more leadership that her by just making sure
there is toilet paper available.
Did the Governor ever visit
the chambers and gather together the Dems and GOP and say, “Lets try and meet each
other half way on getting some bills passed? No, from what I hear she didn’t. Probably because she and her rightwing handlers never feel
they need to meet someone halfway either.
Maybe they will go for 15%, but halfway…nah.
Damn, how did the Land of
Enchantment turn into the Land of the Hopeless. We really don't deserve this.
A genuine leader is not a searcher for consensus but a molder of consensus.

Well put.
Did anyone check? Was the governor even in New Mexico during the session? During the months -- almost one entire year -- she's been jetting around the country hobnobbing with monied elites she could have been laying the groundwork for a productive, job creating session.
I think Martin Luther King's words are something we all need to think about. We have a voting public that overwhelmingly elected this governor twice, and keeps sending people to Santa Fe like this Democratic senator from Las Vegas who's been selling us out right and left to land himself a nice college president's job.
We can't leave it up to elected officials, and have to keep the pressure on them by informing the electorate ourselves through blogs like this and by every means available.
Along those lines, let me second Jim's recommendation of the novella he mentioned a couple of posts ago, The Wages of Humanity by Liu Cixin. It's very well written and fascinating, and the kind of thing that makes one think about what's going on in the world and the kind of thing we should be reading to steel ourselves for the task at hand.
Let me add that when you go to Amazon, it's set up to steer you into their $9.99 per month unlimited reading deal, which sounds like a good deal and might improve my reading discipline, but if you're not ready for that there's a way to buy just that book for the low low price of $1.99.
There's a difference, remember, between being frugal and being cheap.
One of the three senators dispached to tell Governor Martinez the session had ended was Senator Gerald Oriz y Pino who is one of the nicest, down to earth people any one could meet and who always has a smile on his face when you first see him and who is a class act when it comes to being courteous. The fact that he described the meeting with Martinez as hostile saying "It really had the feel of a dictator who has been thwarted" really says it all. Martinez confirmed she is nothing more than a low rent bully and when she does not get her way, she is petty and vindictive. Damn I am hoping she gets put on the national Republican ticket so that the national media will expose her for what she really is seeing as our local media are so enamoured with her.
Probably because it does not include Social Security trust fund. Those are funds paid in like people who participate in them.
