Misc.

Just when I think I might better like Representative Michelle Grisham Lujan she does something to make me think she is a run of the mill member of Congress.  Her blind support for lifting the ban on oil export sales from this country is nothing more than a pandering for money from the fossil fuel boys and their dirty ways.  The oil guys say it will mean more money for the state's share of royalties from federal oil lands in the state.  If they and the Congresswoman are so concerned about that why don't they move quickly to increase the royalty rate the Bureau of Land Management charges.  It has been stuck at 12.5% for almost a hundred years!  State Land Offices and private land owners get a hell of a lot more than that.  So, will we see Lujan Grisham rise to the occasion to move along a nascent effort to get this done?  Or will she just prove herself an ally of right wing crazy Congressman Steve Pearce?

And then there is the silly battle over Columbus day on the Albuquerque City Council.  Members are fighting over something that happened hundreds of years ago and really has no relevance to anyones lives today.  Sure, Columbus didn't discover America since natives were already living here.  But you can't step back to 1492 to change what happened.  This debate just engenders hate between people who who were born hundreds of years after Columbus arrived.  It is kind of like the continued warfare in the middle east where everyone fights over tribal incursions that happened thousands of years ago. The council needs to spend its efforts on real time problems, like our miserable state of affairs under the absence of economic growth policies of Mayor Richard Berry's administration.

Are you the only one in town that does not know Michelle Grisham Lujan is looking to run for Governor in 2018???? She will need the big donations from the "fossil fuel boys" as you call them to run against Hector Balderas in the primary and perhaps RJ Berry in the general. Mitchel has always had some support within the Republican Party and a few top Republican donors. If I recall, she was even a Cabinet Secretary under Republican Gary Johnson. She may be a Democrat but money has no party loyalty and she will take it wherever it comes from.

Of course I know she is a typical pol in trying to raise money for future races. That is why I have never though of her as a true progressive. Money for campaigns is her utmost time consuming job. She has good points, but if she is in the hands of the oils boys, she would be nothing more that Susana the Second.

In my experience, she gets involved in issues and take a stand without being well informed and she has no follow through. She proposes bills that are outright unconstitutional and a third grader would know better. Her staff has told her she needs to do more than make a splash. They want her to be more studious and substantive, but I don't see that happening. She doesn't have the attention span. She filed a medical malpractice law suit regarding her husband's death after the statute of limitations had run.

She is about as subtle at asking for money as the guy with the sigh at the Wal-Mart parking lot. I am a faithful Democrat, I have never voted for a Republican. If there is no good Democrat I skip that race. Sortta like I did for Gary King. And I get the same feeling for Michelle......

Michelle Grisham seems to enjoy having her picture taken hanging out with Republican members of congress. I've posted a couple of them after she'd posted them on Facebook. She also made a show of her support for Israeli Prime Minister Bejamin Netanyahu, whose Likuud Party is basically a wing of the Republican Party, when Republicans enlisted his aid in subverting US foreign policy by inviting him to speak before congress.

I've also written about her publicity stunts, like going down to our local Social Security office with a photographer in tow and embarrassing the people who work there for taking so long to wait on people after she voted to cut their budget. Also about her abandoning Democrats to vote with Republicans when they were trying to block the president's immigration reforms.

To look over her campaign finances go here and play around with the blue tabs under her name and with the tabs below that for "election cycle."

New Mexico will be better served by Democrats who oppose US imperial policies that are leaving nothing but blood and destruction across the Middle East in wars that benefit no one but multinational corporations, that, in turn, with assistance from today's Democrats, use their profits to benefit the US and US workers as little as they can possibly manage.
