Worth Some Time

The Albuquerque Journal picked up this essay from the Los Angeles Times.  It is worth reading.  I have felt this way too.

I agree. A must read.

The idea of American Exceptionalism is dying a bloody death, I'm afraid. No longer able to dominate the world through sheer economic might, we still have our vast military, and the Necon dream of using it to dominate the world is the history of the last 10 years in the Middle East, with the result of a few thousand American working class soldiers deaths, hundreds of thousands of Iraqi and Afghanistani deaths, and the destruction of two countries, not to mention trillions of dollars of debt.

And now, as China begins to outflank us economically, Obama is militarizing Australia and greatly increasing the militarization of the Straight of Malacca and the South China Sea. In speeches by him and Secretary of State Clinton, he signaled that this will be our next great Imperial project, tightening the military noose around China. This just happened a week or so ago but has not been picked up on yet, as far as I have seen.
