Larry Barker on KRQE is doing his ratings thing at the behest of his masters in the news department. Last night's lengthy 'investigative' story on the City of Santa Fe's recycling operation was a nothing burger. A truck load of recyclables was sent to the land fill instead of the recycling center. Not a good thing but hardly worth a 3 minute scandal piece. But this is what journalists like Barker are forced to do these days because their leadership has no real sense of what is wrong with our country.
Let me help. Larry, do a story on the TV industries collusion and political support for the idea that no limits should be placed on corporation's or people's ability to give money to candidates. Of course about 80% of that money goes to the broadcasters in the form of purchased TV ads. So of course the industry loves this notion that our democracy is being hijacked by big corporate money interests.
Do you think you will ever see a story like that on any national network or local TV station? No, because they are part of that system that loves profits over democracy.

The TV business is uglier than most things. It is normally perceived as some kind of cruel and shallow money trench through the heart of the journalism industry, a long plastic hallway where thieves and pimps run free and good men die like dogs, for no good reason.Hunter S. Thompson

I agree, Barker used to be so good, now all we get is "video" handed to him by Rob Perry showing low level workers stealing or sleeping and that is the story. Barker needs to follow Rob Perry around and do a story on what Perry does during the day. Or how about the air of corruption surrounding APD and Chief Schultz? Or just about anything else.
Larry Barker could easily do a story on the Tazer contract with the City, but this would require real reporting and a little hard work on his part. Ray Schultz as APD Chief awarded a $1.9 million contract to Tazer for equipment and cameras. Within a few months after the contract is awarded, Schultz retires and goes to work for Tazer, while still being carried on City Payroll for unused time. An email is found from Schultz to Tazer that says the contract has been "greased" for approval by City council. The DoJ report comes out saying in part that there was excessive use of force with the use of Tazer equipment by APD. Berry hires two out of state people, at $75,000 just to start to work, to negotiate for the City with DoJ. Before the City Council, the consultants admit it was Schultz who contacted the consultants and come to find out the consultants also work for Tazer. Talk about incompetence, but all Larry Barker can report on is garbage. Barker needs to give it up and stop trying to be relevant. Barkers reports for the last few years have been very lame at best.
The only people who listen to Larry Barker anymore are the old white guys who look to the Koch’s as an idol and are mad as hell that they lost control of the US and the world. Here’s the finger to you! In the next 10 years this world will be gone for 80% of you and we can live in peace. The rest of us see Barker’s nakedness. Thanks Jim for telling Larry Barker what most of us think.
I’d never thought I’d waste time reading blogs or posting to them. What I’ve realized is that the local media including the journal and the tv news are nothing more than government propaganda machines. If you want to educated yourself about the truth of what is really going on, you find it in the blogs and websites. Thanks for the education! It’s time well spent.
Truth out wants to know what happened to MARY HAN and what we are going to do about APD. Great coverage here: http://www.truth-out.org/news/item/23875-police-siege-of-albuquerque-will-the-feds-prosecute-top-brass
When your mind is closed it becomes impossible to view daily happenings in the world from an unbiased vantage point.
Corruption is rampant in every part of government and private industry. The most recent abhorrent example is the VA that is run primarily by civilians who never wore a uniform and consider their patients to be a nuisance.
This is worth viewing for the entire 10 minutes but it gets very interesting when Mayor Berry refuses to acknowledge the Han crime scene at the 7 minute mark:

Kent Walz of the Abq Journal will NEVER do ANYTHING critical of Berry or Perry because they gave his paper over $1Million in ad revenue last year.
