It is truly sad to see how the Albuquerque Journal has become part of the GOP machine. Today's editorial decrying the peaceful but noisy civil disobedience in the city council meeting Monday evening seems to forget the importance of such actions to this nation's history. Gee, remember the Tea Party? And all to protect the Mayor who was once again no where to be seen. And then the Journal puts in a snippet about how the adjourned meeting might have cost the city $200,000 in higher interest charges because some bonds were not purchased. How about the tens of millions of dollars that the city has paid out in lawsuits for the killing spree from APD? Does the Journal editorial board have any sense of proportion?
I was looking closely at the video of the protestors and noticed that a lot of senior citizens were in attendance along with the families of the victims of APD's itchy trigger fingers. Not exactly a group that looks like they are advocating violence. Granted, the 'citizens arrest' attempt of the APD Chief by the protestors was a bit lame.(At least he was there) And as for the UNM professor who led the group, good for him. University faculties and students have long been the ones pushing for reform that made this a great democracy. But, the neocons at the Journal see that as a great evil now.

I've been trying to say we need to work around the Martinez/Berry machine. This can be done relatively easily via the internet. One way is to 1) create a centralized location for the real news coming directly from the existing websites and 2) to give us as individuals a voice when we've been victimized. 3) It also can be a place to educate the public about how to effectively deal with this corrupt governement to prevent them from getting victimized. There are more victims than just those associated with the police. The site can have a variety of "channels" and have link to blogs where ANY individual anonymously can have a voice so these people can no longer abuse us without us calling them on it instantly. It would permit credibility in reporting and prevent the propaganda that is currently occurring now. It also would be proactive so that we no longer are vulnerable to the dark money that is destroying our city and state.
More protests will happen here and in other cities as citizens rights are infringed upon. It's about time too.
Where were all the people when their loved ones needed help. No where to be found, because they didn't want to be bothered by them. But now that they are deceased the so called family members are coming out of the work like cockroaches in search of a free meal. Suddenly their lil Hito"s and Hita's are upstanding citizens. Bottom line you point a gun at a police officer, or refuse to drop what you have in your hands, or make an aggressive gesture you deserve what you get. When will any of these people realize that the dead or injured person has to take responsibility for their actions...
