Domestic, bush & Cinemark Sucks

I have been staying busy with domestic stuff the last few days. New granite counter tops in the kitchen took a day and a half of work along with new plumbing in the kitchen and bathrooms. Hopefully, this stuff will all end next week and I can get back to other interests.

I had an interesting conversation with a VP of a large new company in Albuquerque today. He said he was in Chicago last week and some folks there asked him about Bill Richardson. His friends knew little about the Governor. They got filled in and ended the conversation by saying the Governor had real qualifications to be running. This pretty much mirrors what I keep hearing in the media and reading in blogs. Many prognosticators will say Bill is a long shot but that he is likable and hardworking. That might mean a lot before this is all over.

What a thought! A qualified President. After watching news clips of bush last night it is a refreshing possibility . I didn't watch the speech last night. Instead, Bobbi and I went and saw the movie "Pan's Labyrinth". It is a stunning and dark tale told both in the reality of the Spanish Civil War and the fairy land of the labyrinth. Another great film from a Spanish director. We also saw "Volver" the other night. Both these films are worth the price.

P.S. Century Theaters has sold out to Cinemark. The popcorn has degraded, the help is rude, the theaters are not as clean, and you have to endure TV commercials before the movie. Cinemark gets a big fat F from me so far.

Keep at it Jim. It's easy to blindly criticize President Bush when you refuse to keep up on what's going on and what he's trying to do that the Democrats won't allow to happen. Then you can complain about the President opposing democrats without having to acknowledge the Democrat's opposing Bush! What a good plan.

Uh, I don't think he said anything about Democrats or Republicans. He just mentioned how nice it would be to have a qualified President.

The progressive nature of this post is concerning.

For a politician such as yourself, taking jabs at The President while admitting negligence to staying up-to-date on current affairs is blatant ignorance.

The State of the Union is by far, the most important address to the nation The President can give.

Willing to neglect such a speech shows a lack of integrity. From my point of view, this heavily damages your credibility.

My last point outlines the disconnect from reality that plagues America. Instead of choosing to stay informed, you rather be entertained.

Shame on you for blindly bashing the President when you choose not to stay informed. You may not like The President and you may disagree with his policies, but you can argue such points with a little class. Where are the facts to disqualify The President of his job?

#2, You're right. Jim didn't mention Democrats or Republicans. But if you've read his blog for any length of time, you know Jim's politics and blind partisanship in supporting even the most inept Democrat over highly capable Republicans.

Imagine: in the age of the internet and of (gasp) newspapers, might it be possible to know what the president said in his SotU speech without actually watching it?

Just for the record. I have never been blindly partisan. I am a Democrat and I am left of center, but I truly appreciate a lot of moderate and progressive Republicans.

My wife wanted to hear Jim Webb's response to Bush, but I didn't want to listen to her cursing at the television screen until Bush finished his speech. We went out and saw "Letters from Iwo Jima," the second of Clint Eastwood's powerful antiwar movies. It was time better spent. I read the text of Bush's speeches later that night while sitting on the john. Also time better spent.

A lot of the fear mongering in his speech is just re-hashed stuff we've already heard (in previous state of the union speeches, I might add) and you could read, watch, and engulf yourself in it if you were so inclined.
Nothing new, nothing innovating, and only enough to make me want to swear at the TV myself.
Thanks for the review on both of the movies. I've been wanting to see both of them.
