Cat Videos

Facebook has picked New Mexico as a central depository for cat videos.  It only took $30 billion in perks from State and County Government to make the deal.  50 permanent jobs for $30 billon.  Wow.

But, I am glad it is happening although I am conflicted about it's high price tag into the future.  But that is the way things happen in economic development now.  Bribe the Corporation to locate here.  Yes, it is a bribe.  But I would rather bribe a modern industry than the old ones New Mexico bribes, of course that is the fossil fuel boys.

That right wing Rio Grande Foundation leader Paul Gessing said he was concerned about the bribes too.  But for some reason he has never rallied against the subsidies for the oil and gas industry.  Gee, I wonder why that might be.

This SciFi classic may not be so far from the truth about how local governments survive in the future.

Facebook has these data centers all over the world now according to one article about this deal. And what are they storing in them? Your comings and goings. NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden said these mega data collections, which are storehouses of records of every move you make on the internet (which Facebook makes millions off of selling to advertisers) are equivalent to a private investigator following you around all day. Speaking of the NSA, Facebook collects the data and the NSA comes in and paws through it, the tiny segment of the Left that still cares about civil liberties has been complaining about for years now.

Joe Monahan today has a good rundownn on how that data center is a big economic net loss for Los Lunas and New Mexico. Economists have studied these things. On that, that article about the sci fi series you link to says it's about some towns that were able to fly through the air using a device called the spindizzy, one of which is stored next to the four wheelers in Governor Martinez' garage.

Not to cast shade on the whole thing.

And now our Governor who works hard for NEW MEXICO is in NORTH CAROLINA campaigning for that incumbent Republican Gov who is in danger of loosing his re-election.

Susana has her priorities straight - NOT.

I would still like to know where the 30 billion figure comes from?

It is the amount of industrial revenue bonds pledged by Los Lunas.
