Misc.

Mayor Berry's approval ratings are in the dumpster.  Not as bad as mine were after opposing the NRA back in 2001, but still not in good shape.  I don't think any Mayor in a major city can escape with good ratings.  That elected position is just to close to the fire and a focal point for voter's frustrations. Compare that with a City Council which has performed poorly also.  They are diffuse and get blamed for nothing.  But, that is the way things work in local government.

Mayoral Candidate Tim Keller is like a hurricane, gathering up every group in his path.  The fact that the Police Union has endorsed him must hit all the GOP fundamentalist candidates right in the kisser. Those crime all the time types are feeling pretty impotent.  When Keller takes office he will have his hands full with the unions and will need some real wisdom in dealing with all of them.

I can't wait to find out who is funding these horrendous ads against Keller accusing him of protecting pedophiles.  The real recipients of this campaign are the TV stations and billboard companies.  They will do anything for money.

Well the Albuquerque Journal released it long anticipated City Council endorsements. The candidates who got the endorsement will now scramble to reprint them and pass it out to voters, maybe not realizing to many that such endorsements are at times the kiss of death. Notice that the Albuquerque Journal does not list party affiliations perpetuating the fraud that our City elections are nonpartisan. Yet the first question on the Journal candidate questionnaire is what party are you? Also, as far back as I can remember, even almost 30 years ago when I was on the city council, the Journal goes out of its way to identify party affiliation in stories about the Mayor and City Councilors. A cynic would say the Journal wants to hide party affiliations in its endorsements to make sure no Democrat who votes will know they are endorsing a Republican.

It is extremely disappointing that the Albuquerque Police Officers Association (APOA) has endorsed a candidate for Mayor and that a candidate for Mayor would actually accept the endorsement. The appearance looks terrible. The APOA has made it clear that it does not like the Department of Justice (DOJ) consent decree and feels that the mandated reforms under the consent decree are interfering with rank and file performing their jobs. The union wants the Department of Justice to go away and does not like civilian oversight. It is not surprising that the APOA would endorse a candidate for Mayor given that it has been at repeated impasse with the Berry Administration during contract negotiations for the last eight years and Mayor Berry unilaterally decided not to pay 5% pay raises negotiated in good faith by the union and eliminated longevity pay for rank and file. Tim Keller accepting the endorsement compromises his commitment to implement the consent decree mandated reforms not to mention further politicizing the police department during union negotiations. For the record, four years ago I interviewed with the APOA and specifically requested that they not make any endorsement.

Dinelli, you are one of the most bitter and sour people I have ever read. You never accomplished your life in politics and now you just wallow in negativity. So sad.
