It was one of those "Mission Accomplished" moments. Mayor Berry said everything was fine in Albuquerque. That we have nothing to worry about. Since he said he wasn't running again that is true, except the next Mayor will have to pick up the pieces.
Who will the next Mayor be? I hear Brian Colon will run, as well as Lawrence Rael. There will be many others before it is over, but to be sure I am hopeful it will not end up in having one of our current city councillors elected. That would be continuing the leaderless era of city government.
We need someone with ideas and the energy to pursue them. If we can get such a person then a renaissance in Albuquerque could lift the whole state of New Mexico out of its owned last place in economic recovery. We are the only state in the nation losing population.

Brian Colon would be an absolute disaster with no city government experience, wanting to make every one happy and playing backroom politics like giving his best friend and buddy Senator Michael Padilla control of 311 with a private contract all the while having his eye on higher office. Lawrence Rael would have the City Hall background but not that much better and not the backbone to take on the Police and Fire departments and Lawrence was always known as the "movida" man.
Berry will have a change in heart when a poll shows he is un-electable state wide and the Chamber of Commerce, NAIOP, the Hispano Chamber of Commerce, the Economic Forum and the New Mexico Business coalition all tell him he needs to continue as Mayor to finish what he has started with APD and his economic policies when he is the one that had made an absolute mess of things. Unless someone can raise at least $1 million they have no business running.
Jim: You really crack me up at times hiding the things you are hearing. If you have heard that Brain Colon and Lawrence Rael will be running for Mayor and then go on to say you hope one of our current city councilors are NOT elected, you no doubt have also heard both City Councillors Ken Sanchez and Dan Lewis are running for Mayor. Why don't you just say so instead of trying to downplay their candidacies by not mentioning their names??? I for one hope that both of these City Councillors run for Mayor because they will have to give up their City Council seats and they will have their ass handed to them when they run for Mayor and they will finally be both off the City Council. There will be 5 Council seats up in two years and we need a complete turnover.
Other names that you are probably hearing being mentioned for Mayor in two years on the Democrat side include former State Auditor Tim Keller, Lt. Governor Diane Dennish, who could self finance, former State Treasurer James Lewis, Pete Dinelli, who ran two years ago, and City Councillor Isaac Benton. On the Republican side Bob Murphy, the executive director of the economic forum and Doug Turner who ran for Governor are names being mentioned. Their is a Republican business woman whose name is also being mention, but I can not recall the name. You may also have heard that a poll was done a few months ago on many of the names mentioned.
A big issue that just may come up in the Mayors race is none other than Jay McClesky who Berry used twice and if McClesky is still around he will convince Berry to run for re-election.

there is some logic in what you say about letting the councillors run and get stomped. good strategy. I have heard Rael and Colon's names from very good sources, but I have not heard from good sources on the others. If you are a good source then don't post as anonymous. Show some willingness to i.d. your self.
I have it on the highest authority that JIM BACA is going to make a return run for mayor!

I have heard the names I have given to you from very reliable sources as well as from some of these people personally. Other names: Maggie Hart Stebbins has decided NOT to run, County Commissioner Wayne Johnson will run if Berry in fact does not and believe it or not DARREN WHITE was circulating his name a few months ago.
The point I wanted to make is if your going to start mentioning names for Mayor now a full two years out, watch for all these other names as well. Another observation is that if Mitchell Lujan Grisham in fact runs for Governor in 2018 as she is threatening, watch Berry and some of these others now talking about Mayor go for her congressional seat.
Anonymous posters always crack me up. Your logic is a little weird, that is if you are worried about a flow of information coming to you, the last thing you should be is anonymous. And I wouldn't fun for Mayor again ever, in this timeline anyway. The next Mayor will not have an easy time trying to get this city on its feet again after 8 years of leaderless government. One would have to have the bluster of Bill Richardson to be successful, and none of the folks have shown that yet.
IT TAKES MONEY TO HAVE THE BLUSTER. IF A CANDIDATE CANNOT RAISE AT LEAST $1 MILLION, THEY ARE NOT GOING TO BE ABLE TO GET THEIR MESSAGE OUT!
