Making Enemies

This is a picture of a sign urging participation in the October City election that would add a 1/8 cent to our gross receipts tax to support the ABQ Bio Park.  It is at the entry way of the zoo.  I am pretty sure it is illegal.

But the real crime here is that this tax will have poor people paying for a bigger share of Bio Park expenses than the rich.  And that is because the gross receipts tax is such a regressive tax.  This needed money for the Zoo should be funded with bonds supported by the property tax, which is less regressive.

I adore our Bio Park.  But, I will vote against this tax on poor people. Most of them can't afford to go to the Bio Park except on an occasional free day.  This is no way to fund daily narrow government operations of this kind, and it is all thanks to weak City Councilors and Mayors who don't want to upset small constituencies.

Does Mayor Berry support this tax?  I think so, since he has said nothing about it.

Just wait for the DoJ report, it is going to say APD needs 1400 cops. How are we going to pay for that? Berry has paid tens of millions of dollars in lawsuits. the money is all gone. I see gross receipts going over 8% and I see property taxes going up, way up. Thanks Berry!

Here is a tid bit of info Jim . The bio park society director is pushing hard to become the next Bio Park Director. Not only is her propaganda campaign on City property illegal it has been approved by Dick and Betty. Who will now say they were not aware! The only time Dick has been to the zoo was to film a commercial for his re-election. He has never been a supporter of the park and has been instrumental in the loss of permanent jobs. Check for yourself, at time of his assention to king, 300 + permanent positions now 100+. He isn't finished he wants animal keepers to be "temps". He just can't find any of his temp agency friends with qualifed keepers YET!! O wait the animal welfare chief seems to be qaulifed to fill a temp keeper position!!

This is the NMBPS way of letting us know that they have not hit the streets in search of new donors. In lieu of the non effort the society will let the taxpayer pick up the slack. My question is , why do we have a NMBPS in the first place if the taxpayer is hit twice ? First -tax dollars to run a city operation, and second a follow up tax to run the same operation!!! Where is WC Fields when you need an explanation? and yes Jim campaigning on City property is ILLEGAL. I was asked at the table in the picture to vote for the "referendum ". If that is not campaigning I don't know what is.

Just got a letter in the mail asking me to join the Bio Park for a year at a price that I find to be ridiculous. It might be worth it if the member was able to allow other people to use it, but an ID has to be shown upon entering. I can barely find time to keep my weeds below four inches, not use any water, make sure my trash and recycle receptacles are far enough away from the curb for pick up, not get harassed by the homeless at every intersection and off ramp. Now we have a possible vote on raising taxes for something that hardly anyone goes too. Politicians at their BEST...
