As long as Berry keeps the National Association of Office and Industrial Parkes (NAIOP), the Economic Forum, the NM Business Coalition and the Hispano Chamber of Commerce happy by doing absolutely nothing to turn our economy around and to oppose any and all taxes, Albuquerque is doomed to continue to dry up and become just another dusty little SW town that is destined to become the a burial ground senior citizens flock to. These 4 groups want to hold on to what they have at all costs and be damned the rest of us. These 4 groups will continue to be the Republican Party backbone of wealthy donors and tea party types and will push Berry to run for re-election in 2 years telling him he is the best Mayor we have ever had and that Albuquerque needs his leadership. With less than a 17% voter turn out Berry will get re-elected.

Don not forget the Albuquerque Chamber of Commerce and its President Terry Cole who can never resist promoting Berry's do nothing approach and bashing all government unions. Terry Cole needs to move on. Terry Cole has been with the Chamber over 30 years and is always at the for front of Republican rhetoric.

It's too bad they don't see that this doesn't make wealth for their members. Or am I missing something?

That's really surprising, that our population is so stagnant.

Latinos are the fastest growing demographic in the country, and New Mexico has the highest percentage of Latinos/Hispanics of any state, so New Mexico's population should be growing faster than the national average. Berry and Martinez have truly accomplished a feat on that one.

There are articles that came out yesterday stating that the fastest growing demographic group in the United States is Asians.

Older people are leaving too. My wife(a NM native) and I decided to retire in the northwest, and moved here last summer. Our daughter and son-in-law are leaving early next year. New Mexico has been turned into an economic and cultural wasteland, run by professional grifters and frightened ignorant bigots, who are justified by a venal clergy who feed the fear and hatred for their own benefit. They never can seem to make anything better for ordinary people but demand a tax free living for telling us self-serving bullshit stories.
But I don't blame it solely on the Repubs or the T-baggers, who have always been there in one form or another. The spineless and compromised Democrats, and an overwhelmingly apathetic population that doesn't seem to care about the future. The northwest has it's crazies and grifters, and it's share bigot cops, but they don't run the place, because some people care. I really hope NM changes, because it is a beautiful state with lots to offer (like solar energy!) but we are too old to wait for a change.

We just moved to Española. My husband is a high school teacher. I am college-educated, yet, unfortunately, not a truck driver or nurse. The job market here is dismal.
