I had meant to mention earlier in the week that Larry Barker at Channel 13 had a good story on the failure of the Martinez administration to pursue a developer who ran up millions in bills before skipping town. Today the Journal did the story and barely mentioned their favorite Governor. When it comes to reporting on the Governor the Journal adheres to the term 'fair and balanced' as practiced by Fox News.
Anyone who was born in the 40's or 50's should go see the road show edition of 'Jersey Boys' which is on a two week run at Popejoy on the UNM Campus. The house was packed on Saturday night. Talk about a nostalgia trip! I remember the first record I ever bought was 'Sherry' by the Four Seasons. I was in the 7th or 8th grade and had a crush on Sherry Brummel who lived down the street. I wonder what ever happened to her.

The Journal sucks as fair and impartial; that's why I only glance at their headlines for free while at Smith's grocery. I ended my subscription a long time ago.
The Journal had a great story today, buried on B6 about the APD Real Time Crime Big Brother Camera being destroyed at Maraposa Park. The story said that the Real Time Crime people watched the attack on their camera for over 7 minutes while NO APD OFFICER RESPONDED! How does it feel to be like the rest of the city? Over 7 minutes and no APD officer responded to their own in progress crime. The crooks go away and the city has $70,0000 in damage to their Camera.
Jim this is the real story. Under Berry APD has over 200 fewer officers and less than 20 coming in as cadets. Schultz and Berry, instead of revamping the department to focus on first responders, create fluff desk jobs for police officers, while response times to crimes goes up. Add to that a recruiting policy that makes no sense (just what does a 21 year old with only 60 college credit hours have in common with a 3 year military veteran who has been to war? And why are both of these people better than a 35 year old Albuquerque home owner who has no debt, a family and a job?).
Berry and Schultz have cause Albuquerque to be a very dangerous place indeed. Even the police can't get help when they call 911.
The Albuquerque Journal is censorship. Balanced, in depth reporting simply doesn't exist. That is why the Associated Press gets the scoop on every single good story. That is also why I get my news from blogs or alternative newspapers like nmcompass or sfreporter.
To add to the APD response time post - operators are coding calls as priority 2 or 3 because APD only provides stats for responding to priority 1 calls. Mary Han, labeled a "suspicious unattended death" should have been a priority one call but it was listed as a priority two. Go figure.
Jersey Boys is an outstanding production and well worth it. Not many things in life these days leaves one genuinely happy and energized after seeing this show. It really is a good time !
Oh but don't forget, under Schultz's new policy, if you're 18, you can get hired on as a PSA and then sidestep all those requirements and become a cop with APD at 21.
